As an educator, are you looking for ways to infuse conservation into your curriculum?

You're in the right place!

The Teacher Workshops in Conservation Science program focuses on conservation science, and how to inspire a passion for nature in every person you engage with, whether in a formal classroom or informal setting.

Our program is meant for educators who engage 6th-12th grade students, but is also appropriate for informal educators and undergraduate professors. Even if you don't teach science in a formal setting, this program has something for you, and we hope you will apply!

This year, we are asking that you apply with a partner from your school or organization, so that you have built-in support when you want to try new things. At least one person on your team of 2 should teach a life science, the other can teach any subject at all; we welcome cross-curricular teams! Each team member should fill out their own application.

Grant-funded scholarships for this residential program include all meals and lodging for the duration of the workshop, in addition to program fees, special experiences, and materials. We will spend Monday and Tuesday night of each program in our fantastic Roar & Snore Safari Classic Tents (https://tinyurl.com/ClassicTents) at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, CA; each tent is outfitted with a cot, a camp chair, several 4-inch sleeping pads, and an electric lantern. Our campground is outfitted with full restrooms and showers, and limited electrical outlets are available if necessary.

When making acceptances, we strive for a diverse representation of years of teaching experience, formal and informal educators, science and non-science subjects, and Title 1 and non-Title 1 schools, while also weighing responses to the personal statement question found at the end of the application. If our applicant pool for certain categories is exceedingly large, participants will be selected on a random, lottery basis.

It is important to select all weeks that you are available. The curriculum for the High School Focus and Middle School Focus weeks is slightly different, but follows the same main themes. If you are selected to participate this summer, we will do our best to place you in the appropriate week. Access to both sets of curriculum will be given to all of our participants, regardless of the week in which you participate.

Remember that the starred weeks are subject to cancellation due to funding, but that the more weeks you select, the easier it is to place you if you are chosen to participate.
